Crafting Innovative Beers for Everyone

The story of Khonso begins in 2013, over a shared love of imported beers during a dads' night out. Kevin Downing and William Teasley sparked the idea, rekindling a conversation Kevin had already had with Corby Hannah, which they had discussed in their younger years. Armed with a homebrew kit, basic equipment, and an undeniable passion, "Brothers That Brew" embarked on their journey.

The Brothers That Brew
The Start of Something Big

Ten years of dedication followed, fueled by over 1,000 gallons of all-grain homebrews, relentless flavor experimentation, and invaluable conversations with local and regional brewers. This journey wouldn't have been possible without the phenomenal support of our community. Sharing our creations with thousands of old and new friends has been instrumental as our guiding light, pushing us to assess, evolve, and refine our beers on an ongoing basis.

Our name, Khonso Brewing, pays homage to Khonso Im-Heb, the ancient Egyptian brewer revered for crafting beverages enjoyed by pharaohs and commoners. In a time when beer transcended social class, Khonso Im-Heb stands as the first documented large-scale brewer, ensuring his creations were accessible to and enjoyed by all.

This spirit of inclusivity resonates deeply with our brewing philosophy. Khonso Brewing's creations are meant to be enjoyed and savored by everyone, regardless of background. The name itself was chosen by our incredible community, who have been with us since the very first brew.

Before moving to GA to attend Morehouse College, Kevin grew up in Germany, Ohio, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. These places all provided unique experiences that contributed to his appreciation of varied cultures, cuisines, and good beer. After exploring different craft brews with the other founders, Kevin was seduced by the home brewing bug. His unique contribution to the group is his passion for experimentation with flavors, exotic spices, and aromas. This imaginative approach to brewing allows The Alchemist to create all types of beer without an allegiance to a specific or particular style.

Raised in Austin, Texas, Corby considers beef brisket as one of the five essential food groups. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta where he met and became fast friends with Kevin. After graduating, he left to find his fortune in Baltimore where he tasted his first, true, craft beer at Sisson’s, now known as Heavy Seas Brewing Company. Since then Corby has traveled far and wide and tasted thousands of beers. The Aficionado considered brewing school, but knew his parents would disown him for wasting his college education! His dream has now come full circle with Khonso.

A native of Tuskegee, Alabama, William converted to craft beer when he tasted his first Samuel Adams Lager while at Boston College. During his nearly 30+ years in Atlanta, he has traveled and tasted craft beer all over the world. Besides brewing diverse beer styles, he is passionate about sharing the significance of beer’s origins and current trends in craft beer. William is The Artist of Khonso Brewing. Brewing is an extension of his passion for learning deeply, fusing flavors, committing to quality, and having fun along the way. Beer is his canvas.
